Almost Maine
Little Lake Theatre, Canonsburg

On a mid-winter night under the Northern Lights, residents of Almost, Maine are falling in and out of love at a startling rate. One critic wrote, “A charmer. Unexpected magic lingers in the air like someone’s breath on a cold winter’s night. John Cariani aims for the heart by way of the funny bone.”

A Beautiful Evening —Strolling Wine Dinner to Benefit Genesis of Pittsburgh, Washington Center
Time: 6:00 - 11 pm
Bella Sera by Greco’s in Canonsburg

A highlight of the dinner is a Silent Auction featuring a Napa Valley Wine Tour, which will consist of a trip for two including airfare, four days/three nights at The Fairmount Sonoma Mission Inn and Spa and a chauffeur driven Mercedes S430 Sedan to tour the Napa Valley in style for five hours.

Sarah, Plain and Tall 
Little Lake Theatre Family Matinee

Set in the early 1900s on the Kansas prairie, Jacob Witting, a widower farmer with two young children places a newspaper ad seeking a wife. Sarah Wheaton of Maine replies, “I will come by train. I will wear a yellow bonnet. I am plain and tall.” This is the story of the month Sarah spends with the Wittings and how they grow to love one another.

Regional Environmental Education Center

Ages: All

Watch as the colors of late summer transition into those of early autumn on these free monthly guided nature hikes on the trails around the Center. A different hike each month. Pre-registration is requested. For more information, e-mail JessicaS@regionaleec.org.

As You Like It

Love poems that seem to grow ontrees. Rivals and lovers banished to theenchanted Forest of Arden. Rosalind,one of the Bard’s most appealing heroines.  Touchstone, a fool with wit and intellect. “All the World’s a Stage” is one of Shakespeare’s most light-hearted comedies.

College Financial Aid Night
Time: 6:30 - 8 p.m.
Peters Township Library

Parents and students are invited to this 90-minute presentation, in which a PHEAA representative will describe all federal and PA-state financial aid programs, scholarships and FAFSA application processes. The speaker will explain how colleges award aid to families and how financial aid deadline dates interface with the college admissions process. Loan rates and interest rates for students and parents will also be discussed. A question and answer session will follow the program. All attendees will receive a free portfolio to organize their financial aid materials.

Halloween Trick or Treating

Feng Shui Class
Time: 6:30 – 8 p.m. 
CRC Multi-Purpose Room
Cost: $30 for residents, $45 for non-residents

The township recreation department is offering this class about Feng Shui, the Chinese art of placement. Class will be taught by Sue Herkner, a certified licensed practitioner. To register, call 724-942-5000 before Oct. 29.

Peters Township Movie Night
CRC Multi-Purpose Room
Cost: Free

The Peters Township Parks and Recreation Department presents an evening of fun, games, popcorn, refreshments, prizes and a movie. Pre-movie fun and games start at 6 p.m. The PG-rated movie (to be announced) begins at 7 p.m. All activities will take place at the Peters Township Community Recreation Center at Peterswood Park. A parent or guardian must directly supervise children under 10. To register, call 724-942-5000 before Oct. 29.

DECEMBER 

Dec. 2
Township Christmas Tree Lighting
Time: 6 p.m.

Municipal Building Parking Lot This year’s festivities will include the McMurray Elementary Chorus lead by Ray Cygrymus, the official tree lighting, refreshments and Santa. Children can visit Santa in the community room and enjoy refreshments.
