Where the Wood Hits the Leather

Peters Township: baseball
While most Pittsburghers head to PNC Park or even Falconi Field to see great baseball under the lights, Peters Township residents have to travel no farther than Peterswood Park, where the high school team’s night games routinely draw crowds of 700 or more. Most high school baseball teams in the area struggle to attract more than a few dozen spectators, but Peters has turned the national pastime into a community event, thanks to its consistently excellent teams, freshly-grilled hotdogs served with cold sodas, and the atmosphere of the park itself.

“It’s a really good time,” says Felicia Stratico, co-president of the baseball boosters. “It’s friends, family, siblings, grandparents, kids from rival teams, and,
because the team is so good, we even see scouts
from college and professional teams.”
